By Mike McAlary. On the murder of rookie NYPD cop Edward Byrne, "assassinated" by drug dealers while guarding a witness -- by McAlary, who was up there with Breslin as a chronicler of NYC life when I was a kid. The late McAlary won a Pulitzer reporting on NYPD and the Abner Louima case for the Daily News so that should give you a framework for this one in terms of quality.

In terms of the book's quality, it's a library veteran, with the plastic binding, stickers, stamps inside, and a card "hutch" on the flyleaf. The spine has a slight lean, and the outer page edges are toned (along with a remainder mark and "withdrawn" stamp). But if you want to know what it was like to open the papers in the tri-state area in the eighties, this is a great reading copy.
