By Thomas Thompson. The hardcover edition author photo is so quintessentially mid-seventies that I wrote it up on my blog about a decade ago. It's not present in the PB, alas, but the story is also classic true crime: a black widower (possibly); a vengeful father (allegedly?); a legal precedent (Texas's first "murder by omission" indictment...basically, the inverse of Good Samaritan statutes as I understand it? not a lawyer!); and a story so complex and twisty that ID producers and podcasters can't resist it.
The paperback shows some shelfwear, plus foxing to the inside of the cover and the top page edges; there's also a remainder mark. But inside, it's clean; the spine has some rubbing, but is uncracked. A fine reading copy, somewhat uncommon in this edition.
