By Edward D. Radin. Radin was the recipient of the first Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime, although his flavorful obit doesn't mention for what he received it (it does note that he was a founder of the organization, however). The quotes attributed to him just in the piece linked made me want to hunt up more of his writing...

...and Crimes of Passion is immediately gripping as well. Calvin Trillin may owe a great deal to Radin, based on his tart entree into the case of Texan black widower (or Bluebeard, as those killers were called back then) Joe Ball; this looks to be a fun read. The hardcover doesn't have its jacket any longer, and there's marked edgewear to the spine's top and bottom, plus a fleck of schmutz on the spine; the book leans a bit as well. But the page toning is manageable, and you'll soon forget its physical flaws in any case.
