By Kenneth Paul Rogers. Subtitled "the true story of a convicted rapist-murderer." The pics are not great, because the cover features what appears to be a rendering of Rogers's victims, slung bare-breasted over a bed. I suppose I shouldn't have expected better from a Playboy Books publication, but: Jesus H. And then there's the writing, which yaws between Portnoyan confessional and badly done erotica. Michael Thomsen's semi-review of the book on Talking Points Memo sums it up better than I can.
So: this is "a plea for understanding" direct from the mind of a sexual predator, which, given how seldom that sort will admit to anything, is...of some use, maybe. It's also beyond sordid and depressing, and an editor ought to have reeled back the descriptions. But if you are looking for this one in order to study it/predators, here it is in all its misguided glory.
The paperback itself is not in great shape: leaning and cracked spine, and the pages are toned. A previous owner wrote her name on the flyleaf (girl: NO). It is a rarity -- THANK GOD -- and the proceeds of its sale will be donated to RAINN.
