By Dorothy Kilgallen. Kilgallen, in the mix on cases from Sam Sheppard to the assassination of John F. Kennedy to...Sinatra?, was one of the first 500 personages to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and her true-crime writing is now highly sought-after. You have to wonder how the genre would look if she'd stayed in it longer...

This fourth-printing hardcover is the 1967 Book Club Edition, and I must say, I’ve seen a couple dozen copies of this one come through since starting the shop, and this is easily the best kept. There’s some shelfwear to the jacket, but you really wouldn’t know it’s nearly 60 years old, or even 6 years old. Sits straight, snug pages; top edge tint is still quite bright; no markings or dog-ears, except for some markings from previous stops on the flyleaves, as shown.

Truly a lovely copy — and they’ve been thin on the ground in 2025 for whatever reason, so you might consider investing in this one.
