By St. Clair McKelway. Would McKelway be as amused as I to see how many online sellers render the title as "from the ANALS of Crime"? Who can say. I can say that this is a revered entry in the genre: a compendium of stories from The New Yorker about, among others, a New York fire chief's oral history of firebugs; "the most expert and persistent subpoena server in history"; and counterfeiter "Mister 880." If you want to know how the older half lived, this is the vintage true-crimer for you.

Less so if you're a stickler for a dust jacket; this hardcover doesn't have one, so there's some cornerwear. But inside, the pages are fairly bright, no dog-ears or writing, mild toning. If you don't spend too much time with the flyleaves, this is a nice reading copy of a classic.
