By Alfred Henry Lewis. This clothbound 1914 edition may have come out after the death of Lewis, a journalist, attorney, and fiction writer in late-19th- and early-20th-century NYC. Cases include the draft riots, the “Slaughter in Astor Place,” and others (including the lead story, Helen Jewett).
In decent shape for over a century old: some rubbing to corners, some tanning to pages inside; a couple of weak hinges. But pages seated snugly overall; only minor soiling to page edges; a faint smell of pipe smoke. A fine antique pick-up.
