Hard to imagine this happening in the Texas of the last 30 years, and McDuff may be a big part of why. The author apologizes on the copyright page for quoting some ugly language.
The paperback may owe YOU an apology, for saying the photos are shocking (they aren’t, especially) and for the cracked spine that broke the center hinge — but the pages are holding steady, somehow, and there are no marks or dog-ears. Some edgewear and page toning as well, but this will get the job done.
