By Gordon Burn. Burn, a journalist, "was struck" during Peter Sutcliffe's trial "by the fact that almost nothing been brought out about the killer's background" -- so if you're looking for a Yorkshire Ripper book that doesn't center the killer, this is likely not for you. On the other hand, it's blurbed in this iteration -- a 1985 Viking Book Club Edition -- by Patricia Highsmith and Norman Mailer. (Mailer says the book will be compared to The Executioner's Song. Okay?)
The jacket is quite worn at the edges and corners, as shown, with a couple small tears; the book itself has some rubbing to the spine (which also has a very slight tilt) and some page toning, but is straight, and the pages are clean. A sturdy reading copy of a book you don't see that often this side of the pond.
